September 05, 2006 , Day 26
I had another hard night last night with coughing leading to vomiting. Once I got over that, the rest of the night was uneventful except for a mild fever, which broke in the night. The cough seems to be subsiding. I am getting a little better with my breathing exercises. A physical therapist came by just as we were getting ready to go for a walk. She followed us for a couple of "H"s, and decided it was too boring and went to check on another patient. We ended up doing four "H"s. Part of my treatment for the pneumonia is to be active out of the bed. At lunch time I puttered around my room, arranging things for expected guests, and clearing my lunch tray. It was fun to be out of bed without three or four people hanging on my every move to make sure I wouldn't fall. I was feeling pretty good all day, and was very active relative to the last couple of weeks. No transfusions.
Just to review where I am right now. I still have most of my body hair. My beard and scalp have thinned considerably. Above the knees, the rashes are effectively gone. I am still peeling everywhere except my back, which got scrubbed clean by the sheets, and my arms, which also get a lot of abrasion. Some of the wierdest peeling going on is my fingertips
On the medical front- WBC went way up today. Technically I am no longer neutropenic. The doctors are discontinuing several antibiotics. The doctors are predicting I will be released by the end of the week, although I will have to get daily IV antibiotics for several days. When my WBC reaches 3.0, they will do another bone marrow biopsy. They will be looking to see if I am in remission, but I think mainly they will be trying to see if the cells growing back are my cells, or my brother's. They think my WBC count might be up to 3.0 by tomorrow. Still waiting for the PLT, and HGB counts to start going up on their own.
WBC went up again, strongly. Hopefully the other types will start to go up also.
