November 7, 2003, DAY #10

Friends,

Another good day today. I feel like my digestive system is starting to recover. I drank a can of Arizona Mucho Mango drink this morning. I might try getting some soup or cottage cheese or something like that for lunch. Maybe if I give myself some food, the food dreams will go away! I found out that I might not have to stay here for the full 30+ days. If I am feeling good, blood counts are up, and am able to eat and take all my medicines orally, they will let me go! Now there's a goal to put in front of me!!! I will be watching the blood counts very closely! No transfusions are required today. Hard nights sleep last night but I feel fine today.

On the medical front: The doctor just said he would give me a lower dose of Voriconazole orally to see if the strobe effects are eliminated. The lab results are very positive. WBC went down a bit because the body wanted RBCs and Platelets, I guess. Hemoglobin was steady. I need some pureed spinach or something to make that go up. The platelets are interesting. You say "of course it is up, you had two transfusions!" However, dear reader, that is not the whole story. After each transfusion, they draw blood to see what the levels are. After the second transfusion, I think my platelet levels were at 42, so it looks like the transplanted stem cells gave platelets an extra POP! This may just be the hopes of an overenthusiastic patient, but it looks good to me!
