November 08, 2006 , Day 22

Friends,

Another increase in the WBC! Slowly but good. Today was another busy day for Ted. He started with a usual early morning doctor's visit. Then the physical therapist came. While preparing for the walk, another doctor came. He did his walk while his doctor was watching. The doctor was pretty happy about Ted walking. He did a longer walk than yesterday. Of course this walk is with the help of walker. Right after he returned to his room and sit in a chair a dopler technician arrived to take a test in his left arm. So sitting in a chair to relax was shortened. Around noon he received his red blood followed by platelets. They also gave him another extra push of morphine because he was complaining again of pain. Around 4pm he took a long shower. In between those activities he was trying to sleep, humming(exercising his mouth and tongue) and doing his mouth care.

Last night was a restless night for him. He didn't sleep much. He was complaining of pain in the mouth early in the evening so they gave him an extra push of morphine which I think helps him with the pain but not sleeping. He finally got some sleep around 5pm after the vital sign check and blood draw.

I talked to his doctor about my concern of him not sleeping much during the night and he recommended to ask for Ativan. Hopefully that will help him.

On the medical front-everything are still the same. The dopler test result came back negative no blood clot in his left arm. They order that test because his left arm is a little bit swollen than the right arm. He did tried to swallow some water. He did it but he started to cough after a while. So they told him not to rush it and let it heal. He received red blood and platelets today.
