March 20, 2007 , Day 154
Friends,
We had a very busy day today. It was also fun! First, some administrative details, we got our day count messed up on the last update, and it is now corrected. This morning, we left home early to get lab work done. I was finished at the lab by 9:30am so we went to the bike shop to get Menchie's bike adjusted a little bit. Then we went to see my tax preparer to sign some paperwork. After lunch, we went around looking at flooring stores. After I got real weary, we went to my office on the way back to the hospital, and saw my boss and my former boss, who hates me (an inside joke, please don't worry about it). We saw lots of other great friends there. At the hospital, my appointment went well. Actually, there was good news and bad news. The good news was that my platelets were up to 45. The bad news was that my platelets were only up to 45. I still can't go riding!!! AAAAAAaaaaaaarrrrrrrrg!
All of my disability issues have been taken care of.
The past two weeks have been pretty busy. We have done a lot of shopping, and have worked on our project. It isn't finished yet. I only rode a couple times in the time period. Sunday I rode and did extremely well. My average heart rate was 81% of maximum for one hour of cycling. My speed, with everything else set up the same was about 3mph faster than the previous hour ride I did. All this was very exciting for me because a couple months ago, if my heart rate got up to 81%, I was passing out. In addition, I did a lot of walking, and one day I climbed 6 flights of steps. In some ways, the period was difficult because this was the first two week period with no doctor visits. I didn't have any lab work or doctors telling me I was doing OK. That was hard. In addition, I am in a stage were I am starting to be able to do a lot more, but not nearly as much as I want to. I can't help Menchie as much as I would like. It is very depressing and frustrating some times. But, I continue to muddle along, doing the best that I can. I helped prepare a couple of meals last week by chopping the veggies. That was fun. We have also been doing more volunteer work, and have lots of volunteer work coming in the next few weeks. We will be working with an organization called the Moonlight Cancer Foundation, which provides financial aid to cancer survivors. This is something that is very important to me, and we are going to try to find out more about this organization. They are having a 2 mile fundraising walk on Saturday, March 31, on the beach at Encinitas. If anyone would like to join the walk, more information is available at www.moonlightcancerfoundation.org .
I have had several requests for weekly updates even if I don't see the doctor. I will try to comply. I will be seeing the doctor next week anyway, so there will be a regular update then.
On the medical front, Flagyl is done. Hopefully I won't need that again. No new medications.
Lab results: All counts are down except Platelets!
