June 26, 2007 , Day 252

Friends,

We had an incredibly busy day today. We were out of the house at 7:45 and we didn't come back until after 8:15pm. We got my labs, got a cashiers check and delivered it to Carlsbad, went shopping, had a doctors appointment, and finally went riding. I am a bit tired now.

During the week, I rode Saturday again. This will be a regular occasion, of course. This time, I made it all the way up Torrey Pines with only one rest. This is a major accomplishment for me. We finished the ride with about 35 miles and 1200 feet of elevation gain. Sunday we rode again, a nice leisurely ride from Coronado to Imperial Beach and back. It was great fun. Today, our ride was back on Fiesta Island, doing intervals. Our second lap of the island we averaged 13.7 mph! Again, a huge accomplishment. Our average for one hour was 12.6mph. I was pretty tired so we just cruised around on the last half of our 21 mile ride, seeing how fast we could go occasionally. Menchie got up to 24mph. I could only manage 23. We also went to spin class on Thursday, where I showed vast improvement on the previous week.

On the medical front, the doctors appointment went well. I think my GVHD is still about the same. My tongue might be a little more sensitive, but that might be caused by the salsa I have been trying. Anything with capsasin in it in even slight amounts is like setting fire to my mouth. No changes to the drug levels, although my doctor said he would probably decrease my cyclosporine again at my next appointment. No real problems were manifest today, and my doctor was very pleased with my condition. I was a little concerned about the GVHD on my legs, but he said that if it got real bad, I would have pipe legs. I said that is what I have and he laughed and said no, it isn't. He was also concerned about the size of my red blood cells again. They ordered a whole bunch of labs for next time to check for possible reasons or deficiencies. My blood pressure is still high, my white count and hemoglobin went down, but my platelets went up a little. I keep wondering what I would be able to do on my bike now if I didn't have anemia. My resting heart rate is down to 57 bpm, so my aerobic conditioning is excellent, but I don't have any hemoglobin to deliver oxygen to my muscles. My creatinine dropped more, to the normal range, which is good news.

Lab results: Blood counts show platelets still going up, with the rest mostly down a little.
