June 19, 2007 , Day 245

Friends,

This week has been a fairly routine week. We are working on lots of financial matters, and the bike riding has been great! Today I had a Pentamadine treatment. It was pretty horrible as usual. I went cycling today also. This is the first time I rode after a Pentamadine treatment. It didn't work that well. I couldn't do much, and I tired easily, so we quit after 7.5 miles. I did hill climbing repeats on Thursday. It was very hard and I had to stop at about 6 miles, and about 350 feet of elevation gain. I was really worried about the Saturday ride with the team, since we would be on the road and there would be lots of hills. On the Saturday ride, we rode in an unexpected direction and for an unexpected distance. We ended up going up Torrey Pines, a long, steep hill that I was not quite ready for. I made it up over half way before Menchie gave me a lift to the top. We ended the ride with 31.5 miles under our tires and a total of 1200 feet of climbing. I was really excited about how well I did. Sunday we did a "noodle" ride. This is an easy ride designed to help recovering from the hard ride the day before. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my heart rate was much lower than it has been before during any ride. My heartrate averaged 65% of max. Prior to Sunday, the lowest I was able to get was about 72%. My speed Sunday was 10.3mph. This was my speed on a max effort ride two weeks before! I am seeing huge improvements in my strength. It is pretty exciting. We finished the irrigation project, and I finished assembling my new table saw and started working on an old project that was stalled due to lack of a table saw. It was fun.

No lab results today. I will be seeing the doctor next week.
