July 10, 2007 , Day 266
Friends,
This has been a great week. I felt a lot better on Wednesday, and we went to spin class on Thursday where I came closer to being able to do everything. The hardest thing is standing, which I did for 5min 30secs. That was about a minute longer than the previous time. Friday I rested pretty much and worked on some projects around the house. We are building planter boxes and a lazy susan. Saturday I rode with the team. I was the only member of the "A" group, so I rode with one mentor, and we had a great ride. I was MUCH stronger than the week before, and was hammering up some of the small hills. No problems on any hills until we got to Torrey. Torrey was incredibly hard, but I made it up all the way without stopping. For those of you who watch the Tour de France, which also started Saturday, Torrey is equivalent to one of the Category 1 or 2 hills during that race. Menchie and I rode a noodle ride on Sunday for about 20 miles, and we rode again today. Todays ride was really fun. We raced each other at points of my choosing. Menchie beat me every time except one, when I blocked her in on the edge of the road. My average speed this time was 12.7mph, which is a big improvement over my previous best. Menchie is still a much stronger rider than I am. This afternoon we went to the hospital so I could get my Pentamadine treatment. It was horrible as usual, but my oxygen level didn't fall so far, and I recovered immediately. My heart rate was better too. I was real weak and shaky when I got done, but I rested for a while and we drove home.
Being sick last week was really hard for both of us, and my parents too. As soon as I feel under the weather, the immediate reaction is to wonder if this is another relapse. Fortunately, I recovered pretty well, and am feeling stronger than ever. Something is interesting now. I walk, drive or cycle around, and I start to forget that I am not up to full strength, and it takes me by surprise. I did a lot of walking yesterday and emotionally, I was real disappointed when I was completely exhausted, because I feel like everything is back to full strength. Obviously it isn't.
No doctors appointment today. The next one is next week. They said they would reduce my immunosuppressants again. That will be GREAT!.
I hope you all had a great 4th of July, and we would like to wish everyone a great week!
