August 21, 2006, Day 11
Friends,
As expected, a very busy day today. It started early this morning when the sink in my room backed up and flooded my room. I moved to a different room. The new room is on the front of the hospital which I like better. I haven't tried yet but I think I can reach the repeater from here. Maybe I'll talk a little on the radio when I am feeling better. I can also see Torrey Pines, so I will be watching for cyclists. The Vancomycin this morning took over 7 hours to infuse because the PICC line was getting clogged. Every couple minutes the occlusion alarm on the pump would go off and the pump would stop. While that was going on, they did ultrasounds on both arms and one leg to see if the veins were healthy. There were some clots around the PICC line. With the infection and the clots it became even more important to get that line out of me. I took a shower after lunch and almost fainted while returning to bed. I spent the rest of the day in bed. So far. Then they put a new PICC line into my right arm, and took an X-ray to ensure it was in the right place. Once they were sure the new PICC line was in the right place they removed the old one. I even snuck a visitor in there somewhere.
On the medical front - I am still feverish and weak. I am covered with various kinds of rash from head to toe. No changes to medications except a new mouth rinse. It seems to be helping, my mouth seems to be getting better.
